This week's topic was very intriguing to me, mainly because my parents are both in the medical field so I have always been fascinated by the body and medicine. I have not been keeping up to date with medical technologies but after doing some research I was impressed. Obviously the development of multiple safe and effective Covid-19 vaccines in less than a year may be considered one of the greater scientific accomplishments in human history. AI is one of the most exciting technologies changing the healthcare landscape. It is very valuable when it comes to detecting diseases early and for confirming an accurate diagnosis quicker. According to Hannah Burke from ProClinical, "In breast cancer care, the use of AI is enabling the review of mammograms to be 30 times faster with 99% accuracy, reducing the need for unnecessary biopsies (Burke 2022). Drug research and discovery is one of the more recent applications of AI in life sciences. This technology is able to create more efficien...

Email confirmation prior to event The first event I attended was the cosmological elements #1 space and art event that took place on April 21st, which was extremely intriguing. I truly enjoyed the works and art displayed by the artists in the event and I even went on their websites to check out more. I like how they use art and science together to create mesmerizing artwork. It is amazing how they turn visuals into photography. This is something I plan on using when designing my project for the midterm. The event discusses the idea of cosmological elements through several lenses. Looking at the diverse ways of interpreting cosmological elements also gives an opportunity to explore where human appreciation and awe of space comes from, what drives visions about space, and scientific investigation, how scientific discoveries enable new visions and at the same time brings us back to the human relationship with cosmological elements which these artists have (Long 2022). Below is a pic...

Although artificial intelligence is now an immense part of our daily lives, artists have been working with robotics for over one hundred years. According to professor Vesna, artists have been working with robots since the early 10's and 20's. Additionally, artists were the ones who envisioned the robotics relation to science. It is truly amazing to see how far artificial intelligence has come and the art that is created due to this new technology. Below is an image of Ai-Da, who is the first robot to paint like an artist. She draws and paints using cameras in her eyes, her AI algorithms, and her robotic arms. She even travels and exhibits her art all around the world.  https://www.ai-darobot.com/ In Walter Benjamin's book, he describes the process by which modern technological reproduction strips institutions and their iconic artworks of their aesthetic authority. Benjamin acknowledges the reality of artistic reproduction throughout history, although he suggests that mechan...

Math has influenced art because it helps the artist make the artwork more visually appealing. Using specific ratios can also help create a more realistic image. Mathematics has directly influenced art with conceptual tools such as linear perspective, the analysis of symmetry, and mathematical objects. Besides math, art has also influenced science. The reason why art is necessary to science is that creativity involves imagination and imagination is visualization (Qamar 2022). Oftentimes, the ability to visualize and imagine certain processes is important to solving scientific problems.  https://www.uib.no/en/math/55347/mathematics-art-and-science Mathematics is a living science, where problems and theory come from the discipline itself. As such, pure  mathematics can be considered both as an art and a science ("Mathematics as art"). Visual artists and painters, especially, draw upon mathematical concepts in their works and some of the most famous works of art have mathema...

My name is Michael Padilla and I am a business economics major. Growing up I was definitely more on the art culture side. One of my favorite things to do is to listen to music and I eventually want learn how to make music. I also plan on designing clothes as a side business in the near future. For some reason science never really fascinated me and it was usually my lowest grade in school.  In today's world science and technology are deemed far more superior than art and literature. This is probably why non-scientists tend to think of scientists as brash and boastful (Snow 5). The conflict between these two cultures is relevant in my life, specifically at my own school. The south side of campus is considered to be for more intelligent students who are STEM majors, while the north side of  campus is regarded as inferior because it is for arts majors. As a business economics major, I will  say that the south side students are a little more cocky but I don't blame them. As st...
